Wayside Orchestra!  ♫ ♫
Come play with us!

We are looking for the musicians that the Lord has gathered to Wayside.

If you can play an orchestral instrument (strings, woodwinds, brass) we want to hear from you!

We’re looking for those who can read music and play with enough skill to make a positive contribution with minimal rehearsal.  We occasionally have a single rehearsal with the choir prior to a Sunday performance. The service music is normally sight read with a single run-through prior to the service.

The orchestra accompanies the Choir and the 9:15 service once or twice a month. Prior to special Christmas or Easter programs we may have more extended rehearsals.  Members of the orchestra also play as a part of the Praise Teams and are scheduled based on their availability.  (We have a current need for a bass player (electric or acoustic) to accompany the Blended Praise Team to help share the load with our one bass player.)

This schedule is terrific for those who can play well but don't have time for an additional weekly rehearsal commitment.
If this sounds like you please contact the worship ministry office.

Orchestra Director:  We are honored to have Jose Irizarry as our Orchestra Director.  Jose won't tell you this about himself but he graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory and holds a Master's Degree form the Mannes College of Music in New York City where he studied with David Nadien (concertmaster for the NY Philharmonic under the direction of Leonard Bernstein).  Jose is the founder of Allegretto Music, Zion Jazz, Groove City Band and Davidi  Music Publishing.  He has performed with many internationally recognized artists to include Jose Feliciano (when Jose Irizarry was 15 years old), Johnny Mathis, and Luciano Pavarotti, among many others.  He wrote orchestration for and played with the San Antonio Symphony.  In December of last year, some of his orchestrations were featured as part of a concert produced by composer Tim Janis in New York's Carnegie Hall.  His music ranges from traditional to contemporary and includes Jazz, Afro-Latin rhythms, Irish, Gospel and Spirituals.  We hope you will take the opportunity to meet Jose.
